Klargester BioDisc Sewage Treatment Plant
The Klargester BioDisc is a type of sewage treatment plant manufactured by Kingspan, widely used for treating domestic and light commercial wastewater in areas without access to mains sewerage. It's a rotating biological contactor (RBC) system, known for its reliability, low energy consumption, and effective treatment process.
🔍 How It Works:
Primary Settlement: Solids in the wastewater settle out in the primary chamber.
Biological Treatment: The partially treated water flows over rotating discs (the “BioDisc”), which are covered in bacteria that break down organic waste.
Final Settlement: Any remaining solids settle before the treated water is discharged.
✅ Key Benefits:
Low running costs: Uses a motor to slowly rotate the discs, consuming minimal energy.
Quiet and low odor
Highly efficient: Can achieve up to 95% BOD (biological oxygen demand) removal.
Long lifespan: With proper maintenance, BioDiscs are durable and long-lasting.
Suitable for small properties or groups of houses
🛠️ Popular Models (Domestic):
BA BioDisc: For 1–6 people (approx.)
BB BioDisc: For 6–12 people
BC, BD, etc.: For larger populations
🔧 Maintenance Requirements:
Annual servicing recommended
Periodic desludging (usually once or twice a year)
Inspection of motor, bearings, and discs
📋 Compliance:
CE Marked
Compliant with EN 12566-3 and UK Building Regulations
May require Environment Agency consent to discharge (in the UK)
