Quantum Sewage Treatment Plant

What is the “Quantum” sewage treatment plant

“Quantum” is a brand/line of domestic-scale sewage treatment plants by WTE (Water Technology Engineering) and associated suppliers.

These plants are for properties not connected to mains drainage. They treat domestic wastewater on site using a specific form of biological treatment.

How it works — key features & process

Here are the main features and treatment stages of a Quantum plant:

Feature / Component Description
Technology Activated Sludge Process (ASP)  a biological aerobic system with bacteria digesting organic matter.
Chambers Typically a 3-stage design:
1. Vibro-Screen: screens / breaks down coarse solids.
2. Aeration / Biozone: microbes digesting pollutants aided by oxygen.
3. Clarification / settlement: solids settle out; clean effluent leaves.
Sludge handling Both settled sludge (bottom) and floating sludge are managed: settled sludge is returned to aeration; floating sludge is automatically returned too to maintain performance.
Odour / noise Designed to be odourless and quiet: fully aerobic throughout, and blower units housed under lids rather than external kiosks.
Adjustable / robust Air flow (aeration) can be adjusted (valve) to suit actual load — helps performance when under-loaded. Tank construction is durable (HDPE etc.). Certified to standards (e.g. EN 12566-3).

Advantages

Compact size — small footprint, which helps where space is limited.

Lower cost compared to some larger or more complex systems (both purchase & installation).

Low energy use — small blowers; minimal moving parts inside tank.

Good treatment quality — high pollutant reduction (up to ~97.3%) for organic load; also reduction of ammonia etc.

Relatively easy maintenance — auto-features (floating sludge return), fewer manual interventions. Warranty periods are long (e.g. 20 years for tank).

When to use a Quantum vs other solutions

Quantum is a good choice for small domestic properties or clusters (cottages, small rural homes) which:

  • Are not on mains sewer
  • Have modest wastewater volumes
  • Need good effluent quality for discharge to watercourses or ditches
  • Want a compact, relatively low-maintenance system
  • If you have high flow, industrial waste, or need to remove very specific contaminants (e.g. heavy metals, pharmaceutical residues), you might need something more advanced.
