The Klargester BioAir Sewage Treatment Plant
What is Klargester BioAir
-
The BioAir is a domestic sewage / wastewater treatment plant made by Klargester (a Kingspan brand).
-
It uses aerated treatment technology. Sewage enters, is aerated to allow microbes to break down organic matter, then solids settle and treated effluent is discharged.
-
It is intended for off-mains properties (homes not connected to main sewer) or where septic tanks / soakaways are inadequate or failing standards.
Key Features & Technical Details
Some of the important spec / design features:
Feature | Details |
---|---|
Population Equivalent (PE) | Range of models for different sizes: BioAir 2 (6PE), 3 (9PE), 4 (12PE), 5 (15PE), 6 (20PE), 7 (25PE), 8 (35PE) |
Daily Flow / Load | Varies by model — e.g. BioAir 3 has ~1.35 m³/day and ~0.54 kg BOD₅/day; BioAir 6 has ~3 m³/day and ~1.2 kg BOD₅/day. |
Effluent Quality | Good performance: BOD₅ ~ 97.5% removal, some figures: 9 mg/l BOD₅, among others. |
Construction / Materials | Tanks are made out of MDPE or GRP depending on model. |
Installation Depths / Invert Options | Inlet/outlet invert depths vary, with options for deeper installation. Some shallow dig designs are available. |
Discharge Options | Either gravity or pumped (Integral Pumped System — “IPS”) outlets depending on site layout. |
Standards & Certification | Complies with EN 12566-3 (standards for small sewage treatment plants) etc. |
Benefits
-
Better water quality / lower environmental impact than a basic septic tank or soakaway.
-
Flexible installation options (gravity or pumped outlet; shallow dig, adjustable invert).
-
Lockable covers, low visibility, often child-proof.
-
Premium models come with better warranty (3 years vs 12 months), alarms etc.
